(Evelyn)

I was born to deaf parents in Beaumont, Texas, and learned to use my physicality to communicate at an early age, as American Sign was not widely used. Most recently, Mary has written her own one woman show,THE BOOK OF MARY, True Tales Told By a Lousy Liar, which goes into production in March 2023. Mary has been active in the Houston theatre scene since the 70s: at Equinox Theatre, known for producing new work and bringing in playwrights such as Sam Shepard, Tom Eyen, and Ntozake Shange, she was a founding company member at Stages Repertory Theatre under the direction of founding director, Ted Swindley, where the mission statement was new work, or classics interpreted to contemporary relevance, where we produced many world and Southwest premieres, often with visiting playwrights such as Marsha Norman and Jules Feiffer. Later, Mary worked at Theater LaB, under Jerry LaBita, where again, the emphasis was on new and challenging scripts. These experiences have taught her how to shape a character without the roadmap of previous productions and to relish collaboration with the playwright.
